About

Rowena Mittal is a product leader with experience in the development of multi-platform chemistry-hardware-software diagnostics products that improve health and healthcare. She has supported over 20 businesses in product strategy, product development, product management or technical due diligence in venture capital including Progenity, Fluidigm, GeneWEAVE, Nima (6SensorLabs), Factor14, Eric Schmidt’s Innovation Endeavors, IndieBio (SOSVentures), PropelX, and MIT NorCal Angel Investors Group. She has also advised a handful of early startups in health technology and consumer wellness & fitness.
Currently, Rowena is Head of Product, Special Projects at Progenity developing lab developed tests (LDTs) for women's health, family planning and fertility, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NASH), and more, as well as engines for repeatable, scalable product development using chemistry and machine learning. Rowena was previously Director of Product at Theranova, where she delivered product roadmaps, development stages, a peer-reviewed publication, partnerships & fundraising strategies for consumer and clinical diagnostics products in diabetes and women's health. Earlier, as a product lead at Integrated Plasmonics Corporation (IPC), Rowena brought 3 consumer health diagnostic products (point-of-care in vitro diagnostics, POC IVD) in diabetes, heart disease, and anemia from concept to scale up manufacturing, reduced development time 70x and prototype costs 93% in 3 months, and invented & filed intellectual property. Rowena joined IPC from Fluidigm, where she brought 2 research use only (RUO) tools for genetic expression and next generation sequencing (NGS) from customer need to market, published a competitive intelligence database to guide executive strategic decision-making, and contributed to 2 peer-reviewed publications as marketing collateral. Rowena was previously a senior engineer at GigaGen, where she developed genomic assays, microfluidics, and integrated hardware for immune system profiling. Her peer-reviewed publications and contributions have been cited over 300 times.
Rowena received a BS in Chemical Engineering from MIT and an MS and PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, with awards from both universities.
